Wilderness Adventure and Peaceful Remoteness, our 10 nights Bush and Beach Experience package allows you to combine the fantastic wildlife and authentic safari experience of the Luangwa Valley in Zambia with the peaceful remoteness of Lake Malawi staying at the incredibly beautiful Kaya Mawa lodge for a great alternative beach holiday. 

After your arrival in Lilongwe, Malawi you take a short flight to Zambia's magnificent Luangwa Valley. A safari which combines the comfort and luxury of Kafunta River Lodge with the rustic beauty of Island Bush Camp, a real Bush Experience. The first days are spent at Kafunta River Lodge, which offers the opportunity to discover the game rich Mfuwe area. Activities at Kafunta River Lodge include game viewing in open vehicles and experience unique night drives, offering the opportunity to view nocturnal animals. The central location of Kafunta River Lodge allows us to explore vast areas of South Luangwa National Park.

 A 3 hour drive from Kafunta River Lodge through remote wilderness takes you to Island bush camp in the very south of the National Park. The camp is built with natural, locally sourced materials, the chalets are set along the bank of the river, all rooms have private verandah over looking the river each chalet has it's own en-suite bathroom, with running water, flush toilets and hot bucket showers. Island bush camp offers rustic comfort and is the base for daily walking safaris. The camp offers an unlimited view of the Luangwa River. The camp is the base for the daily walking safaris in the Mopane woodland and clearings along the banks of the river which provide exciting and interesting wildlife encounters.

After your safari adventure you will be transfered to Mfuwe to catch your flight to Lilongwe and conecting small plane out to Kaya Mawa to begin your beach holiday.

Kaya Mawa, translated as "Maybe tomorrow" in the local dialect, the lodge uses the stunning natural surroundings to create an idyllic island lodge of unique character and imagination. Kaya Mawa is located on Likoma Island, in the middle of Lake Malawi close to Mozambique, and is covered with mango trees and ancient baobabs and encircled by glorious sandy beaches and rocky coves. Recently completely renovated with beautiful refurbishments and reopened in April 2010. It has been rated by Condé Nast Magazine as one of the planet's ten most romantic destinations.
Individually designed, stone and teak-framed thatched accommodation. All with ensuite bathroom, direct access to the water. The new beach bar, restaurant and lounge areas are spacious and airy and enjoy undoubtedly the best views on the lake.

Activities include snorkelling, windsurfing, kayaking, sailing, swimming pool, walks or cycling to local village or craft workshop. Diving, wakeboarding, waterskiing and quad biking are optional activities. offered. Ideal year round destination for weddings, honeymoons, individuals and families.

Lake Niassa, the 9th largest lake in the world, provides the setting for the lodge. At 560km long, 80km wide and 700m deep, it forms most of the eastern border between Malawi and Mozambique. The lake’s fresh water is crystal clear and contains a greater variety of indigenous fish species of than any other lake in the world.

Walking: the lodge is located at the foot of the escarpment in the Rift Valley. This means it only takes a few minutes to walk up behind the lodge, gain some height and look out over the lake towards Malawi.
Bird watching: the lake attracts a vast range of bird species the lodge has several guides who are highly knowledgeable about finding and identifying the local bird species.
