A 7 night safari to Zambia's wonderful South Luangwa National Park . This one of our most popular safaris and has received great feed back from guests for the camps we used but also for the overall experience and the varied & interesting wildlife sightings.
Small group (max 6) set departure safaris which introduces you to the bush and prolific wildlife of the Luangwa valley in Zambia. This fully escorted safari will be led by one of our highly experienced team who know the area well and who add an extra dimesion to your safari and take care of everything allowing you to just relax and enjoy your safari. You will stay in a combination of very comfortable safari lodge and rustic bush camp. Game drive in open 4x4's during the day and at night and also enjoy walking safaris in the far remote south, expertly guided by skilled guides from the local communities and armed rangers., a combination which works very well, with warm friendly staff who just cant do enough for there guests.
This safari is suitable for a first time safari or regular safari goers looking to get away from the main tourist routes. You will visit the best game viewing areas of the South Luangwa's Mfuwe and the remote mopane woodlands and drying river, heaving with Hippo in the far south. in search of Leopards and a myriad of other nocturnal animals in the South Luangwa national park.
You will also have the chance to enjoy walking safaris (gentle walks) in what is regarded as the home of the walking safari, in the company of skilled trackers and armed rangers. We choose these lodges for the access to some of the more off the beaten track area's . The first days are spent at Kafunta River Lodge, staying in very comfortable thatched chalets overlooking a drying flood plain towards the Luangwa river. With game always in site grazing on the plain and visiting the permanent waterhole in front of camp. Great meals are enjoyed in the shade of the dining boma or on the deck overlooking the floodlit waterhole. Kafunta is in a game rich area and adjacent to the Mfuwe sector of the south Luangwa, a pontoon just minuets from camp gives us access to the less visited area's which generate simply amazing Leopard sightings with sometimes several cats on each evening game drive, (of course not guaranteed!) amongst a myriad of other animals and birds.
A 3 hour game drive south across the national park through remote wilderness takes you to Island Bush Camp in the very south of the national park. Island Bush Camp is built from natural, locally sourced materials, and the chalets are set along the banks of the Luangwa River. Camp centers around a central dining area and a camp fire where guests take in the stars and sounds from the bush. Meals are created by the inginious camp cook on a log buring stove. Three days are spent at Island camp exploring mostly on foot in the woodland and drying oxbow lagoons (dambos) of the far south, camp is very rustic but comfortable, guests stay in open fronted chalets (ensuite) which look directly on to the river and inevitably a great numbers of hippo and other visiting game. Guests stay in canvas and reed huts build on stilts that ensure safety from wild animals and provide an unlimited view of the Luangwa River and each chalet has it's own en-suite bathroom, with running water, flushing toilets and hot bucket showers. This camp is in the bush and with nothing to keep wildlife out visits from Elephants are common and
On our last day in the valley we will have time for one last game drive before heading to the airport at Mfuwe for a flight to Lusaka where you will stay at Pioneer Camp , a friendly lodge not to far from the international airport. The following day you will transfer to catch your homeward flight
