Safaris in Uganda

Every gorilla permit purchased goes towards the protection of the gorilla national parks and benefits the surrounding communities, supporting the conservation of the much threatened mountain gorilla . This is why Volcanoes Safaris believe it is vital that more clients go tracking when less people are visiting the region and are in effect donating the cost of an additional permit to the gorilla national parks.

The combination of Uganda and Rwanda in one great journey leaves guests feeling enriched  and enlightened to the sheer variety of wildlife and cultures of this stunning part of the world. In Western Uganda lies the magnificent Queen Elizabeth National Park (QE), with the ice-covered peaks of the Rwenzori Mountains as a backdrop. It is rich in wildlife, including the tree lions at Ishasha, and is a haven for bird-watchers. Chimps can be seen in the steeply forested sides of the Kyambura Gorge, near Queen Elizabeth National Park; and the Kibale Forest. Further south, in the chain of eight blue Virunga volcanoes strung out on the borders of Uganda, Rwanda and Congo, at the heart of Africa, lives the mountain gorilla.

Gorillas, Wildlife & Chimps

Uganda always surprises visitors, with it's diverse wildlife and natural beauty, there is so much more than just the magnificent Gorilla's.
This safari starts in the Kibale Forest, host to thirteen species of primate including the chimpanzee. Tracking chimpanzee families foraging through this verdant forest is a thrilling experience and truly a unique wildlife experience. Later in the journey on the savannah plains, you can expect to see the great game of Africa in the magnificent Queen Elizabeth National Park including, elephant, lion, buffalo, hippo and leopard and with Bigodi Wetland nearby, many forest and swamp birds can also be seen. Track the fast moving and elusive chimpanzees in the Kyambura Gorge nearby. The safari continues on to track gorillas in the primeval forest of Bwindi, which is home to four habituated families who live in thick tropical forest, tracking here is more challenging as the hillsides are steeper, whist in the area you can also enjoy less strenuous nature walks to enjoy the many birds, monkeys and orchids. (Your Bwindi gorilla tracking permit is included in the cost).

Uganda & Rwanda Safari Adventure

A safari that traces the western Rift Valley in the heart of Africa, starting with game viewing on the savannah plains of Queen Elizabeth National Park - elephant, lion, buffalo, hippo, and leopard. Track the fast moving and elusive chimpanzees in Kyambura Gorge. In Ishasha go on the hunt for the tree-climbing lions lounging on old fig trees. See the rich wildlife and array of birds on the Kazinga Channel.
