A Green Season safari that combines fabulous Loliondo walking safaris with the Maasai, night drives and bush picnics with the wildebeest migration on the southern Serengeti plains; then top it off with a stay at the iconic Lamai Serengeti, close to the Mara River in the less crowded northern Serengeti.

We're recommending spending your first night at Plantation Lodge, stopping off at Lake Manyara National Park, en route. The following morning, head off for a morning game drive into the Ngorongoro Crater before heading north into the Loliondo Private Concession Area.

  • 1 night Plantation Lodge

  • 2nts Serengeti Safari Camp
  • 2nts Lamai Serengeti
  • Private car & guide in Serengeti Safari camp and Nduara Loliondo, shared car and guide at Lamai Serengeti.

Day 1. Plantation Lodge
Head out of Arusha and drive out towards Lake Manyara NP, about a 3hr drive, spending the afternoon game viewing in the forests and around the lake; the park is well known for elephants, lion, buffalo, zebra and general plains game. Overnight at Plantation Lodge, up towards the Ngorongoro Highlands.

Day 2. Nduara Loliondo
Today, you're really on the move as you head off from Karatu, through the Ngorongoro Crater towards the southern Loliondo plains. The drive is all about stark contrasts of forested highlands to the flat endless short grass plains of the Greater Serengeti eco-system. Arrive at Nduara Loliondo late afternoon in time to stretch your legs for a short walk amidst the most spectacular scenery.

Day 3.  Nduara Loliondo
Because Loliondo is outside of the Serengeti National Park boundaries, you have the freedom to do all kinds of things - walking, driving off-road; enjoy picnics and bush dinners, as well as learning something about the Maasai culture - this is an area we share with them. Spend a full day out exploring the area by car and on foot.In the late afternoon, head out for sundowners before dinner back in camp.

Day 4. Serengeti Safari Camp
Drive across the endless green plains of the southern Serengeti. The migration will be in full swing in the area; loads of wildebeest, zebra and accompanying predators. After a full day on the hoof, with a picnic lunch en route, you'll at Serengeti Safari Camp, in time for sundowners around the fire.

Day 5. Serengeti Safari Camp
You can entirely dictate the pace of your day, in discussion with your guide. Search for lion or cheetah along the edge of the woodland or head out into the vast plains to get in amongst the widlebeest migration, along with herds of zebra and gazelle at every turn. You'll be surprised by the fabulous variety of birdlife in this area as well as the carpet of flowers that develops with the first rains. By early February the wildebeest calving will peak over a 2-3 week period and along with it increased chances of predator activity.

Day 6. Lamai Serengeti
After an early morning game drive within the woodlands, catch a scheduled flight from Ndutu to Kogatende in the northern Serengeti. Too often ignored at this time of year, this area is a gem in the green season. Recently opened, and sensitively developed within the rocks, Lamai Serengeti has 12 room combining canvas, rock and thatch; each fabulously comfortable room enjoys one of the best views in the whole Serengeti.

Day 7. Lamai Serengeti
Dominated by the Mara river, full of crocs & hippos, this area is great for lion prides as well as big herds of buffalo, elephant, cheetah as well as leopard in the many kopjes that make this landscape so distinctive. Also look out for the small Oribi which thrives in this area but is otherwise extremely scarce in northern Tanzania generally.
As well as quiet game drives & walking safaris between camp and the Mara river itself we encourage all our guests to cross the river into the Lamai wedge itself, which runs north to the Kenya border. After the rains, the short grass plains in this area attract concentrations of plains game from Kenya's Maasai Mara to rival even the southern Serengeti at times - and with them, a great chance of seeing lion, hyena & cheetah.

Day 8. A morning flight can scoop you up from here and take you to Western Tanzania (twice a week on Monday & Thursday), arriving in Katavi or Mahale for a late lunch. Alternatively there are scheduled flights back to Arusha and onward to Zanzibar, Selous or north to Nairobi.
