Lots of our clients prefer to take there time on safari and avoid the temptation to move from camp to camp preferring to get to know an area at an unhurried pace and save quite a bit of cost. We think that Kasaka River Lodge is a great place to spend a week or two either as a single destination for your safari or as part of a safari to The Kafue National park or Luangwa Valley. Kasaka is an unpretentious owner run safari lodge with a great atmosphere and flexibility to help you get the most from your safari. Kasaka River Lodge is a 22 bed luxury en-suited tented camp nestled on the banks of the Zambezi River in the Chiawa Game Management area 4km by road from the Lower Zambezi National Park - this is the only stretch on the 2,700 kilometer course of the Zambezi River where one finds National Parks on both banks of the river - the Lower Zambezi National Park in Zambia and the famed Mana Pools World Heritage Site in Zimbabwe. The river extends the length of the property and there are breathtaking views over the water with sightings of buffalo, elephant, hippo and crocodile.
The philosophy of combining a tranquil, off the beaten track destination for guests with support of the local environment, culture and natural resources fits well with Busanga Safaris' key aims when recommending a quality wildlife experience. The lodge is situated in a natural bush environment with each chalet secluded amongst the native flora. Kasaka has a 'tame side' with beautiful manicured gardens and colorful indigenous plants and a 'wild side' for the more adventurous, which is connected to the main lodge by overhead walkways to allow for the passage of wildlife within the camp. Dining can be flexible with meals served in a thatched dining area that over looks the river but can also be arranged on the deck for dining under the stars.
Kasaka's bar and deck area are nestled amongst huge tamarind trees and is the perfect location for watching the world go by on the river. This is an ideal place to vegetate in leather lounges or sofas to read or just relax after your day's activities. The library area offers books of interest related to Africa and its abundant flora and fauna and a variety of board games are available on request.
A Swimming Pool, overlooks the mighty Zambezi River. Sunloungers, large sunshades and two hammocks are available to help you relax during the quieter part of the day. Pool towels & drinks are served by the pool. Game spotting activities: The beauty of this park is that is it relatively untouched and offers a range of different habitats. The Zambezi river is edged with a thick riverine fringe, grassy floodplains inland are fringed by vast forests of Winterthorn trees, with the escarpment hills providing a dramatic backdrop to this stunning area.
The National Park is home to herds of Elephant and Buffalo and offers frequent sightings of Lion and Leopard. Impala, Waterbuck and Kudu are common sightings as are Zebra, Warthog, Monkeys, Baboons and Hyena.
Kasaka offers its guests a great choice of activities. Exciting and educational Walking safaris will take you in to bush escorted by armed guides. You can expect to encounter animals of all sizes and experience the sounds, smells and feel of the bush in blissful silence. Your experienced local guides have a huge range of knowledge of the local flora and fauna and they are happy to answer any questions you may have. Early morning and late afternoon game drives when the bush is cooler and the game is more active. New open top Land Rovers provide guests with maximum comfort which last between two to four hours depending on the wishes of you the guest and the animal activity, evening drives normally set off about an hour and a half before sun set stopping for sundowners at one of the guides' favorite spots! All before carrying on in the cooler evening air using spotlights to track nocturnal creatures such as Civets, Porcupines, Genets, Honey badgers and frequently Leopard. Cruising on the magnificent Zambezi River is a great way to see the local wildlife. Camp has three pontoon boats that can take you on a river safari where you will see a huge variety of animals such as, hippos, crocodiles and elephants and a wide array of birds. This s is one of the best ways to truly see and hear life in, on and around the Zambezi River. There are two three-man canoes and qualified canoe guides who will teach you the basics of canoeing in this environment. You can enjoy a leisurely trip downstream before being brought back to camp by motor boat or vehicle. Unfortunately we can only allow children over the age of 12 in the canoes for safety reasons.
Cultural visits to the local community can be arranged on request and for many of our guests this is often the highlight of their trip. Mugurameno Village is situated forty minutes by boat, upstream from Kasaka. The UK based charity, Mugurameno Basic School Charitable Trust, Charity No. 1101231, was set up in December 2003 and supports the community's two schools. From your short walk from the river you walk past the village and learn how the community lives and works the land. Mugurameno Community School accommodates children under the age of five. You will be warmly welcomed by their teacher Ernest and most probably sung to by the class! Seeing Ernest's passion for teaching and the standard of education being taught, with a limited amount of resources, is an experience that will stay with you for a long time to come.
