Located on the far eastern side of India, Kaziranga is situated on the floodplain of the mighty Brahmaputra River.
The landscape is a hugefloodplain many kilometres wide, and tracks have been built to allow visitors
to navigate between the various lagoons and areas of woodland. Tall grasses and even taller stands of
bamboo cover the ground. The park is home to one of the last two remaining strongholds of the Indian
one‐horned rhinoceros. Wild Asian elephants are also present and the area is a good habitat for tigers,
although they are difficult to see in the long grasses. The whole area is generally rich in birdlife and is a haven
for many other animals.

DAY 4 to 7 • GAME DRIVES • ELEPHANT RIDE The park has three entrances, all located within reach of your resort. You will have morning and afternoon game drives with your driver and naturalist exploring these routes. You will have
access to several tall watchtowers that allow viewing of the animals over some distance. The park was set up to provide a refuge for the onehorned rhinoceros, though the tiger has had considerable benefit from the blanket protection put in place. The chances of seeing
the rhinoceros are much higher then the tiger, but you never know: we managed brief glimpses of two tigers during our reconnaissance visit! There are also wild elephant in some parts of the park. To increase your chances of rhinoceros sightings, you will take an elephant ride during one of the
morning drives, boarding the elephants from purpose built towers. The annual flood levels are marked on the side of the towers, and once on the elephant you will be able to see flood marks well above your heads on the side of the towers. The volume of water to achieve that is simply mind‐blowing!
