The central location of Kafunta River Lodge allows us to explore vast areas of South Luangwa National Park. It is an incredible feeling, senses are heightened you become aware of every nuance - from the tiny scratches in the sand made by the long quills of a porcupine, or the pungent aroma of fresh elephant dung to the call of Oxpeckers hinting that big game is close by.
A 3 hour drive from Kafunta River Lodge through remote wilderness takes you to our Camp in the very south of the National Park. We leave the safari vehicle on the banks of the Luangwa River and cross the river by boat. Island Bush Camp is rebuilt each year on the only inhabitable Island in the Luangwa River although seasonal changes in the shape of the river have meant that camp stopped being a true island! The camp is built with natural, locally sourced materials, the chalets are set along the bank of the river, all rooms have private verandah over looking the river and each chalet has it's own en-suite bathroom, with running water, flush toilets and hot bucket showers. Island bush camp offers rustic comfort and is the base for daily walking safaris.

Kasaka -
The eight chalets are luxury tented and tastefully decorated with an authentic African flavour. Each has an elegantly furnished en-suite bathroom with flush toilets and powerful heated showers. The lodge is situated in a natural bush environment with each chalet secluded amongst the native flora. Kasaka has a 'tame side' with beautiful manicured gardens and colourful indigenous plants and a 'wild side' for the more adventurous, which is connected to the main lodge by overhead walkways to allow for the passage of wildlife within the camp. Kasaka's bar and deck area are nestled amongst huge tamarind trees and is the perfect location for watching the world go by on the river. This is an ideal setting for you to relax in our leather loungers or sofas to read or just relax after your day's activities. The library area offers books of interest related to Africa and its abundant flora and fauna as well as a variety of board games.
The thatched dining area over looks the river and dining can also be arranged on the deck for dining under the stars. There is a swimming pool, situated on the 'tame side', which overlooks the mighty Zambezi River.
