- $630 suite (sleeps 2) per night full board
A great choice for a beach break at the end of a safari in Tanzania. Small and tasteful and in a great location on Zanzibar's east coast. Each of the 12 whitewashed thatched bungalows has been built in harmony with the surroundings, on top of a cliff edge with the Indian Ocean lapping against it. Each suite has its own individual touches and the beautiful indigenous coconut tree has been artfully used in furniture and building details. Matemwe Bungalows has a unique feel and an amazingly relaxed atmosphere. There is no need for air-conditioning as the cool sea-breeze washes over you while you sleep. Watch the fishing boats go to work from your hammock or the private beach where the white sand feels like silk between your toes. If you want to do more than just relaxing, Matemwe offers a number of activities from snorkelling at Mnemba Atoll to deep sea fishing in the Pemba channel. The intimate nature of the property makes it perfect for those looking for a romantic break or honeymoon.
There is plenty to on the beach, Matemwe provides equipment for guests, including shoes for reef walks, masks and snorkels, kites and kayaks. Matemwe is part of the comunity and walks in the village or fishing trips with local fishermen can easily be arranged.
Guests often combine Matemwe with a stay for a day or two in Stone town where we can arrange a stay in a very chic little hotel in the old town.
The hotels we recommend on Zanzibar are small and very comfortable and not as basic as many offered in Zanzibar.
We can arrange your flights to and from the island even if you are not (for some strange reason?) on one of our safaris.
