Mkulumadzi, Is a very unique place, an exclusive luxury lodge set on a lush riverbank within Majete Wildlife Reserve.
Majete Wildlife Reserve is a vast region of mature woodland and granite hills, picturesque river valleys and dense forest. It is home to the elusive black rhino, along with elephant, buffalo, nyala, sable, eland and hartebeest. There are plans to reintroduce lion, leopard and cheetah in 2012 as part of a pioneering conservation project.

Undiscovered by tourists, Majete is a true wilderness where every trip into the bush with our team of experienced guides will feel like an adventure.
For connoisseurs of wildlife many exciting encounters lie in store, with the chance to view many species including black rhino, elephant, buffalo, eland, kudu, sable, suni, klipspringer, Lichtenstein’s hartebeest and zebra.

Majete is one of the outstanding success stories of African conservation. Granted protected status in 1955, it became the subject of extensive poaching in the 1980s and 1990s. But a concerted joint effort since 2003 by the African Parks Network and the Malawi government - including the reintroduction of endangered species - has turned it into a model of sustainable development and biodiversity.
Restoring the reserve to its former beauty is not merely an exercise in attracting tourists. The stated aim is to benefit the people of Malawi and, in particular, the local communities in Majete. Poachers will, literally, turn gamekeeper.

Located in the south of Malawi , Majete is an area of 70.000 hectares, of mature miombo woodlands and granite topped hills that contrast with picturesque river valleys and lush riverine forest.

Surrounded by 7,000 hectares of private concession, Mkulumadzi enjoys an idyllic location at the confluence of two rivers shaded by giant leadwood trees. It is the perfect combination of splendid isolation and first-class facilities.

Mkulumadzi is owned and managed by Robin Pope Safaris, which was founded in 1986 and has earned a reputation as Africa’s leading safari company. The standards of accommodation, hospitality, guiding and catering are second to none. The lodge has eight superb chalets, each with spacious living quarters and private viewing deck. Guests can swim in the pool, dine under the stars, enjoy river cruises, game drives and walking safaris.
At Mkulumadzi you can be as active or as idle as you wish. Head into the bush to track rhino, hike to the peak of Majete Hill, take a cultural tour of local villages or simply lounge on the shaded riverbank listening to the gentle grunt of hippos.

Guests can visit Majete as a single destination or as part of a longer safari, we are able to arrange everything for you.
Itinerary Ideas:  You may wish to combine a stay at Mkulumadzi with another Robin Pope Safaris property either in Malawi or in neighbouring Zambia. We also offer Pumulani on the shores of Lake Malawi – making a perfect “beach and bush” combination.
Ideally, why not spend a few days at a safari camp in Zambia enjoying unrivalled big-game viewing, followed by 3 or 4 nights at Mkulumadzi, finishing with a relaxing stay on the beach at Pumulani.
