Ultimate Zambia Adventure Safari

12 nights Rafting / Canoe / Walking Safari

$5360 pp requires min 2 people

So you are looking for adventure? And excitement? And something other folks have not done or even thought of?

Well you just found it. Not normally achievable due to the complexities of the planning, our experience in this region enables us to put together what we think is the most varied and interesting adventurous Safari in Zambia (or beyond) you will be escorted throughout by one of our team just to make sure everything works well, but the adventure is yours.

This completely unique African Adventure takes you on a journey traversing from the centre to the east of Zambia roughly following the route of the Zambezi and Luangwa rivers beginning at the Victoria falls (Mosi o' Tunya).

Where you adventure begins with white water rafting below the mighty falls in what is regarded as some of the most challenging white water in Africa from here we drive east to the Lower Zambezi valley to take on a 3 night Canoe safari in the middle Mana pools section of the Zambezi, pitching camps on islands in the river as you go. Having paddled your way along the Zambezi you will haul out and head for Royal airstrip to fly to Mfuwe in the centre of the South Luangwa where you will be met by our guides who will bring us to the very comfortable Kafunta River Lodge for a days relaxing and game viewing before heading south by open safari vehicle to Island Bush Camp where from this fantastic little camp far away from anything apart from wildlife and bush you will explore for a day or two. We then cross the mighty Luangwa river in the company of your guide and armed ranger to walk north across the South Luangwa National Park for two full days, stopping at night at a semi-permanent bush camp and finally arriving near to Kafunta where we will be met buy a vehicle who will take us back to the lodge for a couple of days relaxing and doing as many or as few game viewing activities as you wish. The safari ends with a flight back to Lusaka where depending on your plans we can arrange a further stay in the city or your onward journey.

Here below is some further info but if you are interested please give Tony or Tyrone a call or drop an email and we will be happy the tell you all you need to know. And provide info on what to pack!

On arrival at Lusaka you will be met and transferred on to a flight to Livingstone where we will head to:

Day 1& 2: Waterberry Lodge, a short drive from Livingstone in a breathtaking, secluded position on the banks of the spectacular Zambezi River is a perfect setting for visiting the amazing Victoria Falls.

On arrival you can relax at Waterberry on the sun deck, round the pool and enjoy sunset cruises, alfresco meals and barbecues cooked under the stars. Hippo and elephant are visitors to Waterberry, especially at dusk, and keen eyed birders can check out our long list of bird sightings. The lodge has very nice well-appointed, comfortable en-suite accommodation. Whilst at Waterberry we will take part in some pretty extreme water rafting expertly guided by experienced and knowledgeable river guides.

There is quite a long (6 hours) but unavoidable drive to the Lower Zambezi

Day 3: Kanyemba Lodge, Lower Zambezi in our base for one night prior to setting off on the Canoe safari the following day.Completely surrounded by nature, with just a few small villages inhabited by the Goba tribe nearby, Kanyemba Lodge is an exclusive relaxing spot designed to board up to only fifteen people at a time.

The central building enriched with a wonderful patio, lodges the dining room, the bar, a lounge and a library housing interesting books about nature and local traditions. Here you can relax while watching the lazy sleep of the hippos in the river. The lodge provides daily laundry service on request, e-mail and satellite telephone and is constantly radio-connected with its office in Lusaka.

Day 4 - 5 & 6:
Three night, four-day island hopping canoeing Safari through the middle Mana flood plain region of the Lower Zambezi, we will enjoy the spectacular beauty and abundant wildlife of this magnificent river valley from the comfort of a canoe one of the finest and most unobtrusive ways to view game and soak up the great outdoors.

Geographically, this middle section of the Zambezi River passes through the confines of two gorges and the Mana Pools flood plain. The highest recorded game populations exist along this river section. We will rendezvous with our Canoe team early in the morning as the Valley can get extremely hot in the summer months (March is relatively cool in comparison), we start canoeing reasonably early to make the most of the cool part of the day, before stopping for breakfast.

A typical day will consist of the following routine:
Rise -Up at 6.30am for tea/coffee and biscuits before setting off on the river.
Breakfast - Between 8.30 and 9 am for approx 1-hour stop.
Lunch- Between 12pm and 2.30 (out of the mid day heat under the shade of a river bank tree.
Camp- we generally reach our island campsite as the sun sinks. The Canoe safari is a participatory which means you will need to help put up tents and arrange your bedding (which is supplied) but your guides will be on hand to help and will also be cooking for you over an open fire.

Canoeing safaris are kept to a manageable size of max 5 canoes per safari which may be made up of just our group or may be joined with others along for just this portion of the journey. With all supplies and provisions being carried in the two-man fibreglass Canadian canoes, which will be home for the next few days. self-contained from the start to the finish of Safari. We will carry a carefully selected inventory of equipment to ensure that a reasonable Level of comfort is maintained throughout the safari.

Day 7-: End the river journey during the Morning before heading to Royal airstrip to fly to Mfuwe (may route via Lusaka) and the chance to enjoy the comfort and luxury of Kafunta River Lodge
, which offers the opportunity to discover the game rich Mfuwe area game viewing in open vehicles and unique night drives offer the opportunity to view nocturnal animals. The central location of Kafunta River Lodge allows us to explore vast areas of South Luangwa National Park.

Day
- 9 -10 - 11 & 12-:  A 4 hour drive from Kafunta River Lodge through remote wilderness takes you to Island Bush Camp in the very heart of the South Luangwa. Island Bush Camp is built from natural, locally sourced materials, and the chalets are set along the banks of the Luangwa River. The camp offers rustic accommodation in grass/reed huts build on stilts that ensure safety from wild animals and provide an unlimited view of the Luangwa River, each chalet has it's own en-suite bathroom, with running water, flushing toilets and hot bucket showers. The camp is the base for us to explore the area before we begin the completely unique walking safari across the South Luangwa national park, although we can never be sure of what we might encounter we can expect to encounter a variety of wildlife both big and small on foot. All of the walking safaris we undertake are guided by a wildlife expert and an armed ranger and are always exciting and interesting. We will stop on route for one night at a very comfortable bush camp in the national park before heading off early the next morning continuing to Kafunta River Lodge in the afternoon of the second day. The last part of your safari can be spent relaxing by the pool or taking advantage of the activities on offer and enjoying some great meals on the deck overlooking the waterhole at Kafunta.
