A safari that begins with two days in the Victoria falls area, staying in a Luxury lodge camp on an island above the falls, before heading by light aircraft to the Kafue National Park where your exploration safari visits three very different camps and very different environments, from riverine woodland to the vast Busanga Plains ensuring great wildlife. Traversing the course of the Lufupa River from its confluence with the Kafue, it's mix of water from two different catchments clearly apparent, right up to the Busanga Plains, takes one through the diverse habitats of riverine forest, miombo woodland, acacia and palm strewn floodplain, dambos and ultimately the plains themselves. This mix of habitats harbors a huge diversity of species from Leopard and Wild Dog of the Lufupa woodlands to Lion and Cheetah of the Busanga Plains, Defassa waterbuck and yellow Baboons of the riverine to Lechwe and Oribi of the grasslands. Game drives, nature walks and boating ensure an interesting and varied exposure to the environment and associated bird and mammal life in this trip that offers the best of Kafue.
ITINERARY
Days 1 & 2: Upon arrival at Lusaka airport you are met by a representative of Sefofane Air Charters, who will transfer you by light aircraft to Livingstone. Overlooking the mighty Zambezi River and some of it's islands, is Toka Leya Camp. Staying in spacious en-suite safari-style tents. Wooden walkways snake between the units and main area.Tent interiors boast cool wooden flooring, tasteful, uncluttered African décor, expansive wooden deck from which to soak up the views of the Zambezi River, often to the sights and sounds of birds, Elephant and grunting pods of Hippo. The camp's dining, lounge and bar areas offer ample space for relaxation and are complemented by an infinity pool, with meals served on the sundeck, the pool deck and dining room all overlooking the Zambezi. Activities include a tour of the Victoria Falls on the Zambian side, game drives within Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park, river cruises, fishing excursions and guided nature walks. Tours of Livingstone town and museum and visits to Mkuni Market and Simonga Village are all outstanding ways of learning about the people and culture of this part of Zambia. Other activities on offer in the area at an additional charge include sunset cruises, helicopter flights, micro-lighting, canoeing, jet boating, and white water rafting.Game drives into the Mosi-oa-Tunya Park offer sightings of general game species such as Buffalo, Giraffe, Zebra, Wildebeest and Impala. There is rich birdlife here too, including several sought-after species such as African Finfoot, Half-collared Kingfisher, African Skimmer (seasonal), Schalow's Turaco and Rock Pratincole (seasonal). Good birding can be enjoyed within the confines of the camp itself, on boat cruises and game drives.
Days 3 & 4: Lufupa Bush Camp is situated on a stetch of rappids on the Kafue river, in the centre of the northern sector of the 22 500 square km Kafue National Park. The beauty of the park is evident in its diverse habitats with floodplains, miombo woodland, thick riverine vegetation and open grassy areas called dambos. There are resident prides of lion and leopard is frequently seen. Wild dogs are occasionally sighted. Hippos are always out in front of the camp frolicking in the cool waters of the Kafue River. There is also a wide variety of plains game ranging from zebra, buffalo, roan, Lichtenstein's hartebeest, sable, kudu and impala to the diminutive oribi. Elephants are also often seen roaming through the concession.
Days 5 & 6: Musanza Tented Camp, Busanga floodplain, north-western Kafue
Depart Lufupa for an early morning game / transfer drive to Musanza Tented Camp.
Musanza Tented Camp is located on the fringes of the Busanga plains and as such is situated in prime game habitat. Accommodation consists of four well-appointed tents with wall-to-wall views of the spectacular wildlife that frequents the grassy plains. The main dining and bar area are tented and situated under a majestic canopy of trees. The simple bush style of this camp creates the perfect atmosphere to enjoy dinner under a canopy of stars around a campfire.
Days 7 & 8: Busanga Bush Camp, Busanga Plains, Northern Kafue
After an early breakfast, we depart for an early morning game drive / transfer to Busanga Bush Camp which is located in the heart of the Busanga Plains.
The Busanga Plains cover an area of approximately 750 sq km and Busanga Bush Camp is located in the centre of this wildlife paradise. The plains are home to thousands of red lechwe, ubiquitous puku, stately roan and the diminutive oribi. Lichtenstein's hartebeest, herds of wildebeest, zebra and buffalo make for a full set of antelope. This wealth of game on the plains is also a big attraction for predators, including wild dog, cheetah, prides of lion, and surprisingly for plains areas leopard.
Busanga Bush Camp in the north-western section of the Busanga is about as 'wild' as you can get in today's world: an unfenced mosaic of expansive grassy seasonal floodplains and "dambos" (open grassy areas that sometimes will fill up with rainwater). This camp is perfectly situated for some of the best lion viewing in Africa. It caters for 8 guests in 4 well-appointed rooms built of reed and canvas with wall-to-wall views of the spectacular wildlife that frequents the plain in front of the camp. Activities include game drives and night drives, led by qualified guides who are extremely knowledgeable about the area and its wildlife. For those interested in birding, the park boasts 491 species, including endemics such as Chaplin's Barbet.
Day 9: Lufupa Bush Camp, Northern Kafue
After an early breakfast, depart by road heading back down to Lufupa Bush Camp where you will enjoy your last evening of the trip on the banks of the Lufupa River.
Day 10: Depart Kafue National Park
Early morning light aircraft transfer to Lusaka Airport, where the safari ends.

In 2012 guests will have the oportunity to take a complimentary Balloon safari across the Busanga plains if you extend to 3 nights at Busanga bush camp.
