A 12 night safari that takes you in too Mana and Matusadona, two of Zimbabwe's key wildlife areas with a rich variety of wildlife and some amazing vista's from dry bush to the vast shorelines of Lake Kariba. Guided  from start to finish by  Doug Macdonald a qualified professional Zimbabwean guide with a great personality and real love and understanding of the bush.

The Zambezi Expedition Safari is designed for the adventurer and you will be required to participate in the adventure by carrying your own equipment and assisting with camp chores. A good level of fitness will be essential to enjoy this safari.

Day 1 – You will be met at Harare International Airport and transferred to a comfortable lodge in Harare where you can relax and will be met by Doug so that we can go through equipment and discuss the safari plans.

Day 2 - 5 – We will leave early in the morning for a 5hr drive to Kariba where we shall catch a speedboat that will take us across Lake Kariba and to the shores of the Matusadona National Park. We will set off from the shoreline on a backpacking safari that will take us into the Zambezi Valley Escarpment following ancient elephant paths and offering magnificent views across the National Park and the lake. At night we shall sleep near water points that these trails lead to. For this you will be required to carry your own backpack with camping equipment and your own food and water all of which will be supplied. The water will be dug from riverbeds or springs as we travel through the mountains.

Day 5 – We will be collected at a prearranged point by a vehicle that will take us to Rhino Camp – This is a small safari camp on the shoreline of Lake Kariba and its basic comforts will enable us to relax have a nice shower a hot meal and a cold drink after the backpacking and perhaps a cruise on the Lake and its numerous bays and inlets watching the wildlife come to drink in the afternoon.

Day 6 – 9 – We leave Rhino Camp by speedboat and cross Lake Kariba where we will meet a transfer vehicle that will take us to a border town downstream of Lake Kariba where we will launch our canoes (18ft Canadian Fibreglass Canoes) and set off on our canoe safari that will take us into Mana Pools National Park. This journey will take three days and you will paddle past herds of animals that feed along and drink from the Zambezi River and also the numerous Hippos and crocodiles that use the Zambezi as their home. This is an amazing and unique safari experience. At night we will camp on Islands in the Zambezi River and all of our equipment will be carried in the canoes and you will be asked to help with basic camp chores like putting up tents.

Day 9 – 12 – We reach our final destination in Mana Pools and from here we then move to a mobile tented camp that will be set up for you on the banks of the Zambezi River and will enable us to explore  this fantastic National Park and World Heritage Site. Game viewing will be done through the flood plain area of Mana Pools either on foot or by vehicle – but the emphasis will be on walking. This Park has tremendous concentrations and variety of wildlife so walking among these herds is always an exciting and awe inspiring adventure.

Day 12 – You will catch a small charter plane to Victoria Falls - one of the seven natural wonders of the planet, here you will stay at the boutique hotel Ilala Lodge where you will be able to relax and unwind in the luxury surroundings before visiting this incredible spectacle of nature.

Day 13 – Your Safari ends with a transfer back to the airport to catch your onward connections.
